Reagan Evingham scored eight of her game-high 18 points during a decisive second-quarter run, and Hornell girls’ basketball advanced to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class B championship game with a 53-47 win over Chenango Forks, Friday at Hudson Valley Community College.
Evingham’s 3-pointer with 5:36 remaining before halftime gave the Red Raiders a 14-12 lead and proved to be the go-ahead basket. The sophomore added another triple and connected again from the floor as part of 10-3 run to close the half.
Hornell scored the first four points of the third quarter, and Jordyn Dyring converted a pair of free throws to push the advantage to double-digits at 27-17 less than three minutes into the stanza.
Evingham’s 3-pointer with :31 remaining in the third pushed the Hornell advantage to 16 at 41-25.
Evingham finished 4-of-7 from behind the 3-point arc for the game and grabbed six rebounds.
Dyring added 16 points and five rebounds. Selena Maldonado finished with 17 points, five rebounds and three assists. Payton Bentley grabbed eight rebounds to go with two points.
Jordyn Ericksen-Hrehor led the Chenango Forks offense with 11 points. Maggie Warpus grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds and tallied eight points. Reagan Hughes had 10 points.
Hornell will face Cold Spring Harbor (VIII) in the Class B title game. A 6:00 p.m. tip-off is scheduled for Saturday at Hudson Valley Community College.
