Fairport’s Scott Fitch has been named head coach of the 2025 USA Men’s U16 National Team as announced by USA Basketball.
The team will compete in the 2025 FIBA U16 AmeriCup, June 2-8.
“I always feel blessed every time I’m asked to be a part of it,” said Fitch. “It’s something special. It’s something that very few people get to experience in their lives. As a high school coach, I think it’s one of the highest things that you can achieve.”
Having served as head coach for the 2019 Nike Hoop Summit, the current U16 assignment will be the second head coaching spot with USA Basketball for Fitch.
The Fairport native started as an assistant coach for the 2017 FIBA Americas U16 Championship.
“More than anything, I just love being a part of it. I love being a part of the culture. I love trying to add to that. I love trying to make the kids better that we get to work with.”
Fitch has had more than 20 assignments with USA Basketball including his most recent as an assistant for the gold-medal winning squad in the 2024 FIBA U17 World Cup.
“I’m very excited about the opportunity,” Fitch said.
Fitch’s 2019 squad, which included former McQuaid Jesuit standout and current Detroit Piston, Isaiah Stewart, defeated the World Team, 93-87 in the Nike Hoop Summit.
Head coach of Fairport since the 2001-02 season, Fitch’s Red Raider squads have won three sectional titles including the 2016-17 team which advanced to the NYSPHSAA Class AA finals. Fitch’s current Fairport squad is 8-1 on the season. The Red Raiders’ next game is Wednesday at Penfield.
Fitch ran the Junior National Team Minicamp for 80 prospective players last October and will hold tryouts in May.
Frank Bennett (Chaminade College Prep) and Nick LoGalbo (Lane Technical College Prep) will serve as assistants with the U16 National Team.
The location for the AmeriCup is TBA.
