Hartford Wolf Pack defenseman Ben Harpur was suspended for four games for bowling over and injuring Rochester Americans goalie Felix Sandstrom in Friday’s game.
Harpur intentionally skated directly into Sandstrom late in the second period of what became a 6-3 victory for the Amerks.
Harpur was assessed a charging major and game misconduct for the blatant illegal check.
He apparently was seeking revenge for a season-ending pectoral injury suffered last year when tripped by Sandstrom in a game in November.
As he raced to the net to convert a pass in a game against Lehigh Valley, Harpur was upended by Sandstrom’s stick as the goalie tried to make the save.
The Amerks did not issue an update on Sandstrom’s status. He left Friday’s game with what was termed an upper body injury.
Matt Vernon was called up from ECHL Jacksonville and met the Amerks in Wilkes-Barre for Saturday night’s game.

Sabres totally botched the Reimer waiver and now they have a major goalie shortage. And, they have to figure out what to do with Levi… a young talent who does not deserve to rot on the bench up in Buffalo.
Sabres need to sign an NHL vet backup and send Levi back here. He needs to play to stay sharp.
