Major League Baseball released its updated list of prospects, and a pair of former Section V standouts appear among those of their respective organizations.
Selected in the most recent MLB Draft, Casey Saucke II (Greece Athena/Chicago White Sox) and Gage Ziehl (Penfield/New York Yankees) have made the Top 30 list for both of their franchises.
Saucke, a 4th Round (107 overall) pick of the White Sox, is No. 25 on Chicago’s list. With a scout grade of 60 (above average) for his arm strength, Saucke also has grades of 55 for runnings, 45 for hitting and 50 for power. Currently with the Winston-Salem Dash of the Class A-Advanced South Atlantic League, Saucke has appeared in four games (all in the outfield) and has three hits, including a double, in 13 at-bats with one walk. He has scored twice.
Ziehl, who signed with the New York on July 29th, has not yet made an appearance for the Rookie Florida Complex League Yankees. A fourth round selection as well (119 overall), the six-foot right-hander has a 55 scout rating for his slider and overall control as well as 50 for his fastball and change-up. He is ranked No. 24 (12th among right-handers) in the Yankees’ organization.
Both Saucke and Ziehl played a season in the Upstate Baseball League.
