Naples’ Megan Musnicki and the Team USA Women’s Eight boat finished second in their heat on Monday, sending them to the repechage of their event at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The USA boat finished the 2000 meter course in 6:19.00, 6.69 seconds behind Romania in Heat 2. Only the top team from each heat qualified straight to the final, so Team USA instead will race in the repechage on Thursday, August 1 at 4:10 A.M. eastern for a chance to race for gold in the finals on Saturday.

No other Rochester-area athletes were active on Monday, but athletes from surrounding regions did compete, with Buffalo’s Jessica Pegula falling in her second-round tennis singles match to Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina. Pegula, the daughter of Fairport native and Buffalo Bills and Sabres’ co-owner Kim Pegula, is still alive in doubles, with her and Coco Gauff set to face a Czech team at 6 A.M. on Wednesday.

More details on the Olympic athletes from the Rochester can be found in our preview article.
