ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Miguel Matos led East High to an unbeaten regular season and top seed in Section V Class A. Coaches named Matos the 2024 Rochester City Athletic Conference (RCAC) Player of the Year.
Matos finished with a record of 9 wins and 0 losses on the season. The senior right-hander hurled three complete games. In 52.2 innings of work, the Monroe Community College commit struck out 108 batters and surrendered 30 hits. He logged an ERA of 1.06.
At the plate, Matos compiled a .585 batting average with an on-base percentage of .690. He connected for six doubles, three triples and two home runs. He stole 10 bases, scored 28 runs and drove in another 24.
Matos, the 2024 Section V Baseball Class A Player of the Year, led East to a second straight City Cup championship then struck out 14 and hurled a complete game as East defeated Palmyra-Macedon, 6-1 in the Class A quarterfinals.
Matos finished his career with a 15-6 record on the mound, five complete games, a 1.64 ERA over 115.1 innings of work with 223 strike outs and 66 hits allowed. At the plate, he hit .480 over his three seasons in purple and gold with a .627 on-base percentage. Matos collected 14 doubles, eight triples, eight home runs, 80 runs scored, 62 RBI and 32 stolen bases. He was also part of East’s 2022 RCAC Tournament Championship team.
Matos is the first Rochester City School District student-athlete in more than 20-plus years to earn a Section V Baseball Class Player of the Year honor.
