ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure men’s basketball head coach Mark Schmidt has announced the signing of guard Jonah Hinton, a 6-foot-3 transfer from Panola (Texas) College, to join the Bonnies program for the 2024-25 season.
“Jonah is a combo guard who can score in a variety of ways. He can really shoot the ball from deep,” Schmidt said. “He’s a smooth player and has a great feel for the game. Jonah has a chance to be an All-Conference type player in our league. We are really excited to add Jonah to the Bonnies backcourt.”
Hinton was a standout in the junior college ranks this past season with Panola where he averaged 14.2 points, 3.2 assists and 2.1 rebounds per game. He shot nearly 41 percent overall from the floor and 80 percent at the foul line. Hinton was a sniper from deep, connecting on nearly 40 percent of his 3-point tries (85-214). The Chicago native started all 34 games for Panola this year.
This past year, he helped Panola to a Top 20 national ranking and a spot in the second round of the NJCAA Tournament before ending the season at 27-7.
He starred at Naperville (Ill.) Central High School while both playing the point as well as off the ball where he averaged 21 points, four rebounds and three assists to earn DuPage Valley Conference Most Valuable Player honors. He earned third team all-state accolades from the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association following his senior season.
Hinton will have three years of collegiate eligibility remaining.
