WEBSTER, N.Y. — Aiden Julian and Jack Simpson delivered two-out RBI hits to cap a late-inning rally as Schroeder defeated Thomas, 7-6 in the Webster Classic championship, Sunday at Webster Schroeder High School.
Simpson tied the game at six with a two-run single.
“I had two people in scoring position,” he said. “I had to get the ball in play and score at least two runs.”
The senior catcher took a fastball on the outside part of the plate and drove it to centerfield. Orlando Figueroa and Gavin Horton scored on the play.
“I got down in the count, but I knew I had to get something done,” Simpson said. “I just took it middle of the field.”
After Tyler Cannon walked, Julian singled off the glove of a diving Ben Horvath at the third base to bring home Simpson with the eventual game winner.
“All I was trying to do was put the ball in play and move the runners,” Julian said. “I would have rather it was a line drive in a gap, but it worked out.”
Schroeder improved to 2-0 on the season with the win over their cross-town rivals.
