Latrell Ingram and Paul Stevens finished with a double-double apiece, and School of the Arts (SOTA0 defeated Dunkirk (VI), 72-55 in non-league action from SUNY Fredonia, Sunday.
Ingram scored 15 of his 21 points in the first half to help pace the Silverhawks to a 31-22 lead heading into the locker room.
“Latrell really stepped up,” said SOTA head coach Kyle Crandall. “He was taking good shots and carried the team on his back.”
The junior guard connected on a trio of first quarter 3-pointers and had three more field goals in the second quarter.
Stevens accounted for eight of his 10 points in the third quarter as SOTA increased its lead to 55-41 heading into the fourth.

“For us playing a full 32 minutes has been the issue this year,” Crandall said. “We’ve generally had one good half per game but having troubles playing a complete game. Coming out in the third quarter and adding to that lead was key today.”
Both Ingram and Stevens grabbed 10 rebounds.
Sam Howland matched Ingram with a team-high 21 points. The senior guard scored 19 of those points in the second half. Howland added seven rebounds and six steals.
“Shot selection was really key today and involving all members of the offense,” Crandall said. “We’ve been really focused on defense and playing well at the end of the floor.”
Dunkirk’s Gene Orcutt connected on three 3-pointers and scored 15 of his game-high 22 points in the first half. Crandall credited Ishamael Gonzalez with slowing down the Dunkirk guard in the second half.
“We really had to hone in our defense. Ishmael did a good job of stepping up.”
The win came after SOTA (8-9) fell to Monroe (No. 8 NYSSWA Class A), 56-51 on Friday.
“We were so close against Monroe on Friday. Up with four minutes, but we couldn’t quite hold on. The kids were disappointed that we had them. We were within reach.”
Sunday’s game was originally scheduled for Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend, but was postponed because of a snowstorm.
“I like these days,” Crandall said. “You get a lot of good team bonding. Time on the bus is always fun. They were really focused on the way here.
“Hopefully, we can build on this for sectionals. We have some tough game down the stretch here.”
SOTA hosts Northeast on Tuesday at School No. 33. A 6:30 PM tip-off is scheduled.
Dunkirk fell to 4-9 with the loss.
