More than a month has passed since the girls’ basketball teams from Canandaigua and Victor met on the hardwood. On that night in late December, Canandaigua came in with a record of 5-1 and ranked No. 8 NYSSWA Class AA. Victor was 5-0 and No. 10 AA. The host Blue Devils grabbed an upper hand in the season series with a 61-37 win.
On Friday night, the Gray Wolves of Canandaigua will look to avenge that setback.
Currently at 11-5, Canandaigua (No. 14 NYSSWA Class AA) will take the court Friday with a six-game winning streak, a stretch that includes victories over two teams ranked in this week’s poll (Pittsford Sutherland/No. 12 Class A and Hilton/No. 7 AA). Victor (15-1/No. 8 AA) has also won six straight with triumphs against Webster Schroeder (No. 13 Class AA) and Aquinas (No. 7 A).

Canandaigua averages 58.6 points per game while allowing 47.6. Victor scores 55.9 while limiting opponents to a Monroe County League-low of 38.8 points per game.
A 7 PM tip-off is scheduled.
Two more state-ranked matchups take place this weekend when Keshequa (13-2/No. 11 Class C) hosts LCAA 3 foe Caledonia-Mumford (12-4/No. 17 Class C) and Newark (12-4/No. 23 Class A) welcomes Finger Lakes East rival Mynderse (13-3/No. 14 Class B) also on Friday.
Keshequa defeated Cal-Mum, 53-43 on January 11th. Cal-Mum has won four straight heading into Friday’s matchup. Keshequa will look to make in two in a row. A 7 PM start is slated.
Newark brings a modest four-game winning streak into its head-to-head with Mynderse. The Blue Devils, who grabbed the earlier the meeting 49-42, will look to make five in a row and a season sweep. Action tips off at 7:30 PM.
Bishop Kearney (9-4/No. 4 Class AA) has a double-dip, so to speak, this weekend. Kevan Sheppard’s squad hosts Section VI Williamsville (No. 19 Class A) for a 6 PM start on Friday. BK turns around and travels to Our Lady of Mercy for a 12:30 PM start on Saturday. A Friday night game followed by another on Saturday? Only other time a team will see that during the high school campaign is the final weekend of the season. Sheppard is making sure this team is prepared for when the time comes.
