Rochester native Isaiah Stewart has been dealing with an ankle injury for almost a month.
The 6’8″ Detroit Pistons center missed some time between the end of December and early January. Since his return in mid-January, Stewart has been battling the injury on and off.
But that hasn’t slowed Stewart down from playing well for the Pistons. The ex-McQuaid Jesuit star came off the bench on Monday and provided 19 points, eight boards, five blocks and two steals in Detroit’s 122-113 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. Stewart was also 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.
Stewart put up impressive numbers in his first two games back with Detroit. On Jan. 12 in the Pistons’ 112-110 loss to the Houston Rockets, Stewart finished with 16 points and seven rebounds. Then in Detroit’s 129-117 win over the Washington Wizards on Jan. 15, he tallied 16 points, six rebounds, four assists, two blocks and a steal.
So far, Stewart is averaging 15.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 2.3 assists in four January games for Detroit.
Stewart and the Pistons host the Charlotte Hornets at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Nate Williams (Houston Rockets)
Williams has been bouncing between the Rockets and the franchise’s G-League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, since the beginning of the season.
More recently, the Rochester native has garnered some minutes for the Rockets. Williams had five points and three rebounds in Houston’s 116-107 loss to the Boston Celtics on Saturday (Jan. 21). On Jan. 13 in another loss to the Celtics, Williams scored five points.
Williams and the Rockets (20-22) host the Portland Trail Blazers at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
