Forty-two days ago, Palmyra-Macedon girls’ basketball made the trip to Seneca Falls for a season-opening matchup with Mynderse. The Red Raiders left with a 62-37 victory that night.

Since then those Finger Lakes East rivals have combined for 16 wins and 2 losses.

Friday night, the Blue Devils (5-1/9-2) head west with revenge on their minds.

A 7:30 PM tipoff is scheduled Friday night as Mynderse (9-2/No. 15 NYSSWA Class B) looks to avenge that earlier loss when it faces Pal-Mac (8-1/No. 9 NYSSWA Class A).

Mynderse’s only loss since that game on December 8th. That setback came the last unbeaten girls team in Section V: Dundee/Bradford (12-0/No. 19 NYSSWA Class C). The Blue Devils have won three straight.

Pal-Mac has won seven in a row including victories over Pittsford Mendon (10-2/ClassAA) and reigning Class B NYS and Federation champ Waterloo (7-6). The Red Raiders only setback this season came to Hornell (No. 1 NYSSWA Class B), 63-59.

Peyton Verkey averages 10.5 points and 7.5 rebounds for a Mynderse squad that scores 51.5 points per game while allowing 43.1. Pal-Mac scores 58.8 and holds opponents to 39.7. Taryn Goodness scored 24 points in Pal-Mac’s recent 54-53 victory over Newark.

Speaking of Hornell, the Red Raiders (9-1) will travel to Section IV and play Waverly (No. 25 NYSSWA Class B) on Friday. Hornell’s only loss this season came to Aquinas (80-61). The Red Raiders have won five in a row.

Technically not a state-ranked tilt, but Victor (11-1/No. 8 NYSSWA AA) paying a visit to Penfield (7-5) Friday night has all the makings of an enticing matchup. Victor took the first meeting 43-40. A Penfield win on Friday could go a long way in helping the Patriots climb into the rankings. Penfield has won five in a row including a 53-45 victory over Hilton (No. 4 NYSSWA AA).

Gananda (No. 4 NYSSWA C) hosts Waterloo (7-6) for a 1 PM tip-off, Saturday. Waterloo is not currently listed among the best in the state. That doesn’t mean the Tigers won’t provide a stern test for the Blue Panthers who have won five consecutive.
