Liana DeValder (Webster Schroeder), Maddie Throumoulos (Webster Thomas), Marlayna Cartagena (Irondequoit) and Lily Goldberg (Pittsford Mendon) led their respective squads to at least a share of league titles. The quartet earned Player of the Year honors for their respective divisions as selected by Monroe County coaches.
DeValder, the Monroe County Division I Player of the Year finished with a 13-4 record in the circle. She registered a 2.05 ERA over 116 innings pitched. Through 19 appearances, the Webster Schroeder sophomore recorded 197 strikeouts with 56 walks and a WHIP (walks + hits per inning) of 1.21. She hurled two shutouts and 11 complete games, including a shutout on May 10 over eventual Class AA runner-up, Victor. In her first full varsity season, DeValder finished with a .508 AVG with 32 hits, 24 RBI and 27 runs scored in 63 at-bats. She collected 12 extra-base hits including two triples and six home runs. The outfielder only struck out five times in 20 games.

Bizzie Baglieri and Kinsley Keil joined their Schroeder teammate on the Division I first team. Baglieri completed her junior season with a .367 AVG, 22 hits, 19 RBI, 17 runs scored and five stolen bases. The infielder recorded 11 extra-base hits including eight doubles and two home runs. Keil had a .381 batting average with 24 hits and seven RBI in 21 games. The eighth-grader went 4-for-4 on stolen-base attempts and scored 12 times.
Rush-Henrietta’s Olivia Sheffer posted a .573 batting average with 41 RBI and 20 extra-base hits to earn a spot on the first team. Sheffer scored the winning run in Royal Comets’ 6-5 victory to clinch the Class AA title. Kadyn Hartel joined her R-H teammate on the first team. The sophomore finished with a 2.30 ERA and 179 strikeouts. Hartel was named Class AA Tournament MVP in the Royal Comets’ title run.
Nicole Allen and Amanda Linnenbrink represented Fairport on the first team. Allen led the Red Raiders with a .526 batting average, .566 on-base percentage and a .908 slugging for a 1.474 OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage). The senior accounted for 40 hits, 17 RBI, 11 doubles, four home runs and 24 runs scored. Linnenbrink posted a 9-3 record with a 1.56 ERA and 107 strikeouts over 93.2 innings pitched. The senior finished with a .193 batting average against (BAA) and a 1.014 WHIP (walks + hits per inning).
Penfield’s Nadia Zach, finished with a .333 batting average. The junior accounted for seven doubles, four triples, three home runs, 16 RBI, 17 runs scored and six walks in 76 plate appearances. Victor’s Carrie Sidare and Olivia Steinorth rounded out the 2023 Monroe County Division I First Team. Sidare hit .437 with an on-base percentage of .535 and slugging of .761. The senior finished with three home runs and 24 RBI. Steinorth struck out 119 over 76 innings pitched and logged an ERA of 1.47.
Maddie Throumoulos garnered Monroe County Division II Player of the Year in leading Webster Thomas to a share of a league title and the No. 2 seed in Class A1. The junior hit .371 with 12 RBI. Throumoulos had three hits and three runs scored in Thomas’s 21-5 win over Irondequoit in the Class A1 finals. She had an RBI-double in the Titans 5-3 victory over Honeoye-Falls Lima in the Class A Regional Qualifier. Teammate Maddie Hicks closed out the regular season with a .296 AVG, 11 RBI and one home run to earn a spot on the Division II First Team. The junior struck out 15 batters and allowed nine runs over three complete games in Thomas’s last three wins. The dual-threat had a grand slam in the third inning, to go with three strikeouts in the Titans’ 6-1 victory in the 2023 NYSPHSAA Class A Far West Regionals. Anna Bello recorded a double, a single and team-high six RBI in the Class A1 championship. The senior put one over the fence and had another RBI in the Far West Regionals.

Vanessa Ng, Shannon O’Hora and Emma Toombs represented Brighton on the first team. Ng finished her junior season with a .419 batting average, .521 OBP, with 18 hits and in 42 at-bats. The outfielder accounted six doubles, one triple, two home runs, 12 runs scored and four walks. She struck out only four times on 48 plate appearances. O’Hora hit .468 with a .444 OBP. The sophomore recorded five doubles, four walks and 14 runs scored. In 77 plate appearances, O’Hora struck out eight times. Toombs finished with a .479 AVG and .479 OBP with 22 hits on 62 at-bats. In 71 plate appearances, the senior had four doubles, three home runs, five walks and eight strikeouts.
Cassidy Wilt represented Churchville-Chili on the Division II First Team. Wilt led the Saints in batting average (.468), on-base percentage (.521) and slugging (.581). The sophomore finished with seven doubles, 18 RBI and 16 runs scored. Hilton’s Lucy Murphy and Paige Siciliano rounded out the Monroe County Division II First Team. Murphy hit .492 with a .603 OBP, 18 stolen bases, 30 runs scored and 11 RBI. Siciliano hit .448 with 19 runs scored and 25 RBI.
Marlayna Cartagena finished off a six-year varsity career as Division III Player of the Year. The senior posted a 14-2 record in the circle with a 2.26 ERA. She struck out 172 over 102.1 innings of work. At the plate, Cartagena hit .482 with 20 RBI, four home runs and 30 runs scored. Irondequoit Eagle teammates Ella Cooley, Nora DeMayo and Abby Ras joined Cartagena on the first team. Cooley hit .419 with 12 RBI and 30 runs scored. DeMayo registered a .364 batting average with 16 RBI and 16 runs scored. Ras had a .506 AVG with 29 RBI and 24 runs scored.
Hannah Carpenter and Maeve Petitti represented Brockport on the first team. Carpenter accounted for 85 strikeouts over 122 innings pitched, good for eight wins. The ninth grader had 33 hits as part of a .465 AVG with 23 RBI, five doubles, three triples and two home runs in 71 at-bats. The shortstop stole six bases and scored 22 runs in 20 games. Petitti finished with team-highs in batting average (.576) and stolen bases (49). The junior had 38 hits, four doubles, two triples and 10 RBI in 66 at-bats.
Ariana Buchiere, Kelley Burnett and Emerson Broomfield represented Canandaigua on the Division III team. Buchiere hit .491 with three doubles, three triples and three home runs. The junior finished with 19 stolen bases, 17 RBI and 23 runs scored. Burnett hit .400 with 19 RBI and 15 runs scored. The junior catcher threw out eight runners on the base paths. Broomfield struck out 132 batters and finished with an ERA of 3.32 and a WHIP of 1.62. Gates Chili’s Emily McManus rounded out the Monroe County Division III First Team.
Lily Goldberg closed out her junior season with a 1.04 ERA with 264 strikeouts to garner Division IV Player of the Year. The Mendon junior had three no-hitters and a perfect game. At the plate, Goldberg registered a .466 batting average with 19 RBI and one home run.
Batavia’s Julia Clark earned a first-team spot with a .448 batting average, 22 RBI, nine doubles, three triples and 17 runs scored. Ellie Cassler and Madison Schubach led Honeoye Falls-Lima to its third sectional title in the last four seasons. Cassler finished with a .442 AVG with 13 RBI, six doubles, three triples and a home run. Schubach had a .365 AVG, three extra-base hits and one home run.
Sutherland’s Addison Bernas, Petra Hunt, Tia Lehtonen and Julianna Lyons along with Eastridge’s Nevaeh Bunch and Emma Johnson rounded out the Monroe County Division IV First Team.
