ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure men’s basketball team has added another veteran presence to its backcourt with the signing of graduate transfer guard Mika Adams-Woods to the 2023-24 roster.
“We are really excited that Mika has decided to join our program,” St. Bonaventure head coach Mark Schmidt said. “He is someone who has played at a high level for the last four years and proven his ability to be an impact player in a variety of ways. He’s long and can create a lot of issues defensively for opponents. He’s a lefty with good range and knack for making the right play. He will add to a talented group we have in our backcourt and we’re looking forward to him getting to work with us this summer.”
Adams-Woods played in 121 games including 104 starts during the past four seasons at the University of Cincinnati. He enjoyed his best season this past year with the Bearcats as he posted improvements in all statistical categories, averaging 9.1 points, 3.2 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 1.1 steals while starting all 36 games. He shot 43 percent overall from the floor and added a deep threat, sinking over 36 percent of his tries from distance (52-142). From the foul line, he made good on nearly 84 percent of his tries last year.
He scored in double figures 18 times this past season for the Bearcats, including a season-best 20 points in an American Athletic Conference first round win over Temple. He also notched 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting in a standout effort vs. second-ranked Houston in AAC play last year. Adams-Woods helped Cincinnati to a 23-13 record and the third round of the NIT during his senior season.
In all, the 6-foot-3, 180-pound native of Syracuse has recorded 955 career points and 306 assists at the Division I level. As a junior, he ranked 15th nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio when he committed only three turnovers over the final seven games and 190 minutes of play during the 2021-22 season. He earned his undergraduate degree this month from Cincinnati where he was a Dean’s List student during his time at UC.
Adams-Woods is another Central New York product to join the Bonnies, signing with the program just two weeks after fellow Syracuse native Charles Pride committed to St. Bonaventure for his fifth year of eligibility as well. The two close friends will finish their collegiate careers in the 716 after growing up in the 315. Adams-Woods played his high school ball at Bishop Ludden where he scored over 1,200 points and averaged nearly 20 points per game while earning First Team All-Central New York honors as a junior. In AAU ball, he was given the nickname “Shoey” for ‘having the ball on a string and taking people’s shoelaces.’
He averaged over 19 points per game at New Hampton (N.H.) School, helping to lead the squad to a runner-up finish at the 2018 New England Prepatory School Athletic Council Class AAA Championship. He was rated as the No. 34 point guard nationally according to Rivals.com before committing to Cincinnati.
Along with Pride, Adams-Woods joins an impressive crop of Bonnies newcomers including freshman wing Duane Thompson who also signed this week as well as transfer center Noel Brown and freshman guard Miles Rose.
