Brockport, NY – Saturday the SUNY Brockport men’s basketball team took down Plattsburgh at home in a nail biter, 67-66. Pulling out the close conference victory, Brockport improves to 17-5 overall and 12-2 in SUNYAC play.
For the second time this season, it was Tony Arnold’s late game finish in the paint that proved to be the game-winner. He poured in a season-high 24 points to lead all scorers on the day and snagged seven rebounds.
Posting his fifth straight double-double, David Grady III ended the game with 11 points, 12 boards, and three blocks. Colby Jordan finished with 10 points, breaking double-digits for just the third time this year.
Jahidi Wallace tallied 10 points and five rebounds for the Green and Gold. Stepping in off the bench, Jacob Oka contributed eight points and five rebounds of his own.
Plattsburgh got going right from the opening tip, jumping out to a quick 7-0 lead. Brockport soon settled into the game, climbing back to tie the score up at 11-11 with 14:46 on the clock.
Consistently attacking the rim, Tony Arnold helped create the team’s largest lead of the half at 9 points with about six minutes left in the half. The Cardinals would end the period on a solid run, drawing the score back even at 33-33 going into halftime.
The second half would be tight the entire way through between these two conference opponents. Providing valuable minutes off the bench, Jacob Oka gave Brockport a 47-46 lead with 13:56 left to play. Once again, the score would be tied up, 56-56, with under eight minutes to play.
Plattsburgh created a little bit of cushion with a 7-point lead at 2:41 on the clock. The starting back court pairing of Colby Jordan and Tony Arnold gave the Green and Gold a much-needed spark coming down the stretch. The teammates scored the final 11 points for Brockport in the last two minutes of regulation.
With 26 ticks left on the clock, Plattsburgh’s Sheriff Conteh nailed a clutch 3-point shot to give the Cardinals a 66-65 lead. Following a timeout, it was Tony Arnold’s turn to come up with a big play for Brockport. With 14 seconds remaining he scored what became the game-winner to put the team up for good, 67-66.
The Golden Eagles take the win at home as the final four regular season games approach. They play a pair of road games next weekend against Oneonta on Friday at 7:30pm and New Paltz at 4pm on Saturday.
