ELMIRA, NY – Sophomore Ryan Broderick scored a career-high 10 points as No. 23 Nazareth successfully completed its weekend sweep with an 88-41 victory over Elmira on Saturday. Freshman Solomon McFarlane had his second-highest point total of his young career, pouring in 12 points on a perfect 5-for-5 from the field in the winning effort.
The victory keeps Nazareth (15-3 overall, 9-2 E8) two games back of undefeated Utica (16-2, 11-0 E8) with the two squads squaring off at Utica on Tuesday in a pivotal conference matchup. Utica handed Nazareth a heartbreaking 85-81 overtime loss at Kidera Gymnasium back on January 10.
Nazareth finished the game shooting nearly 58 percent from the field, connecting on 30-of-66 attempts.
Holding a five-point lead just past the mid-point of the first, Nazareth closed out on a 25-5 run to build a sizable advantage. The lead was 45-20 at the half.
Freshman Jaylen Savage scored in double-figures for the fifth-straight game with 11 points on 5-for-9, to go along with three assists.
Logan Blankenberg found 10 points for Nazareth, while Zach Stenglein added eight points, four rebounds and two steals.
Luke Insley added nine points on 4-for-5 from the floor.
