NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named George Washington senior James Bishop IV and Saint Joseph’s senior Cameron Brown as its Men’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week. George Washington freshman Maximus Edwards repeated as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Jan. 16-22.
hop led GW to a 2-0 week with wins at George Mason and home over Dayton, averaging 23.0 points, 7.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds in the process. The guard from Baltimore shot 44.7 percent (17-of-38) from the field and 71.4 percent (10-for-14) from the free throw line. In Monday’s win over George Mason, Bishop scored 15 of his 19 points after halftime, also contributing eight assists. Bishop then scored 27 points in GW’s triumph over Dayton on Saturday, including 18 after halftime. He hit 10-of-19 (.526) from the floor and 7-of-10 (.700) at the free throw line. Bishop also added seven assists and snagged four rebounds
Leading Saint Joseph’s to a 2-0 record on the week, Brown averaged 22.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 62.5 percent (15-of-24) from the floor and 57.1 percent (8-of-14) from 3-point range. At La Salle on Monday, Brown finished with a team-high 20 points and added four rebounds, two assists, a steal and a blocked shot in the victory. He followed with a stellar performance in a win over Massachusetts as he matched his career-high with 25 points on 9-12 (.750) shooting, including 4-7 (.571) from distance, and added six boards and two steals.
Edwards built off his previous Rookie of the Week honor with two superb games in GW’s back-to-back wins. The guard from Stratford, Conn., averaged 14.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and shot 50 percent from the floor (10-for-20) and from beyond the arc (6-of-12). Edwards began his week with 14 points at George Mason, knocking down 5-of-10 (.500) from the field, including three 3-pointers. He also added six rebounds, an assist, a steal and made his lone free throw. He was then the early catalyst in GW’s victory over Dayton, scoring 13 of his 15 points in the first half, including 3-of-5 (.600) 3-pointers and 5-of-10 (.500) shots overall. He again grabbed six boards and tallied one assist.

Toumani Camara hit 6-of-12 (.500) in each game last week tallying 15 points in a win over Davidson and 16 versus GW with eight rebounds … UD freshman Mike Sharavjamts dished out seven assists and scored nine points with five rebounds in the win over Davidson … George Mason’s Josh Oduro averaged 20.5 points and 11.5 rebounds with three blocks and four steals in a split week for the Patriots … La Salle’s Fousseyni Drame had a huge week, including a 24-point, 13-rebound double-double with four steals against Saint Joseph’s … Tom Welch had 16 points on 4-of-6 (.667) shooting and .800 (8-for-10) to lead Loyola Chicago past St. Bonaventure for the Ramblers’ first A-10 victory … Massachusetts’ Matt Cross posted a pair of double-doubles on the week, finishing with averages of 14.5 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists against Saint Joseph’s and VCU. Rhode Island’s Brayon Freeman averaged 21.5 points, 3.0 assists and 2.5 rebounds, including a career-high 25 points against George Mason, with 23 coming in the second half … St. Bonaventure freshman Yann Farell scored 11 points on perfect 4-of-4 shooting, including 3-for-3 from 3-point range, in a win over Duquesne … Francis Okoro averaged 15.0 rebounds for Saint Louis, grabbing 10 at Loyola, then collecting 20 as part of a 12-point double-double in a win over La Salle … SLU’s Sincere Parker averaged 16.5 points, highlighted by 20 points on 8-of-9 (.889) shooting in the la Salle victory … VCU’s Jamir Watkins tallied a 15-point, 10-rebounds double-double in the Rams’ road win over cross-town rival Richmond Friday night.
