ROCHESTER, NY – Sophomore guard Lila McGuiggin had a career-high 21 points as the Tigers beat Liberty League foe Clarkson, 66-49.
Clarkson started the scoring with a layup by Bella Doyle with 8:32 left in the first quarter to make the game 2-0, the start of a 7-0 run to begin the game.
The Tigers got on the board with 5:51 left in the first quarter on a layup by McGuiggin to make the game 7-2.
Sophomore guard Kaitlyn Bockelman hit a three-pointer with 4:02 left in the first quarter to cut the Golden Knights lead to two, 7-5.
Junior guard Emma Waite hit a layup with 3:30 left in the quarter to tie it, 7-7.
The Golden Knights retook the lead with a free throw, but Waite put the Tigers ahead 9-8 with a layup with 2:51 left in the first quarter.
The Tigers led 11-10 at the end of the first quarter.
RIT opened the second quarter with an 11-2 run culminating in a three-pointer by Waite to put the Tigers ahead by 10, 22-12, with 6:17 left to play in the second quarter.
Clarkson outscored RIT, 7-3, for the rest of the quarter, but the Tigers went into halftime up 25-19.
The Tigers extended their lead in the third, outscoring Clarkson, 24-15. McGuiggin scored nine points in the quarter, all from three-point range.
RIT maintained the lead for the rest of the game for the 66-49 victory.
RIT shot 24-of-71 (33.8%) from the field, including 11-of-25 (44.0%) beyond the arc.
The Tigers outrebounded Clarkson, 53-33.
Waite had 20 points, while sophomore guard/forward Sydney Pearson had 14 rebounds.
