Potsdam, NY – The SUNY Brockport women’s basketball team completed the weekend with a second win, defeating Potsdam 68-58 on the road Saturday. Brockport gets back to .500 on the season at 9-9 and improves to 6-5 in the conference.
Zairea Hannah posted her fifth double-double of the season to cap off a strong weekend of play. She finished with 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Stephanie Jean-Baptiste’s jump shot was hitting this afternoon, as she went 4-for-5 from deep on the way to a game-high 18 points. Anna Felice was the third Golden Eagle to hit double-digits, scoring 12 in the game.
Both Anna Lee and Hali Lucia distributed the ball well in the road matchup with the Bears. Lee had five assists to go with eight points and four boards. Lucia also had five assists to match her teammate, while also coming up with five rebounds and two steals.
Brockport and Potsdam were ready to compete right from the opening tip, as the first quarter was tight the whole way through. The score would be tied at 17-17 going into the second. The Green and Gold cashed in on 3-of-5 shots from beyond the arc in the first.
The two conference opponents continued to battle in a close game in the second, before Brockport took a slim lead. Continuing to hit from deep, the Golden Eagles would go up by eight points with 1:35 left in the quarter. They would hold onto a 35-29 lead going into halftime.
Potsdam fought to close the gap in the third, eventually cutting the deficit to three points halfway through the period. However, Brockport closed the quarter strong to jump out to a double-digit lead for the first time in the game, 53-43. The hometown Bears scored to make it an 8-point game heading into the fourth.
Brockport was ready with an answer for every advance Potsdam tried to make in the final period of regulation. Despite the effort from the Bears, the Green and Gold was able to defend and hit free throws down the stretch to close it out. Brockport has now won back-to-back conference games, after the 10-point win on Saturday.
