Potsdam, NY – Brockport defeated Potsdam, 86-59, for its eighth straight win. The Golden Eagles are now 15-3 overall and 10-1 in the conference.
Mekhi Beckett poured in an efficient 24 points to lead all scorers in the game. He went 8-for-13 from the field, 4-for-6 from long range, and a perfect 4-for-4 at the charity stripe.
With 12 points and 14 rebounds, David Grady III has now posted back-to-back double-doubles for the Green and Gold. He also added two blocks and two steals defensively.
Tony Arnold stuffed the stat sheet with 17 points, seven assists, five boards, and five steals. Teammate Jahidi Wallace ended his night with 13 points, shooting 5-for-8 from the floor.
The early part of this SUNYAC matchup was a back and forth affair. The two teams battled to a 12-12 tie after the first six and a half minutes. Potsdam was able to break the tie and create a slight lead on the scoreboard. However, Brockport would answer quickly and take a lead of its own at 25-24 with five minutes left in the half.
Right before the first half came to an end, David Grady III nailed a jumper to help give Brockport a 36-28 lead at the break. After a competitive 20 minutes, the pace of the game would change in the second half.
The Golden Eagles dominated the remainder of the game, outscoring the Bears, 50-31, in the second half. Their 8-point lead at halftime was quickly doubled to a 16-point lead in the opening three minutes of the second. Potsdam made one surge to close the gap, but Brockport answered yet again. This time the Green and Gold would extend the lead to 20, behind some timely 3-pointers by Mekhi Beckett.
Brockport would march through the final moments of the game with a convincing lead and the game in hand. The squad finished the weekend with a 27-point win over Potsdam, remaining at the top of the SUNYAC standings.
The Golden Eagles are on the road for another conference matchup. This time they will head over to Geneseo on Friday, January 27th for a 7:30pm tip-off.
