NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named George Mason senior Josh Oduro as its Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. George Washington freshman Maximus Edwards was selected as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Jan. 9-15.
Oduro averaged 24.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals in two games for George Mason this past week. He also shot 62.1 percent (18-of-29) and averaged 6.5 offensive boards per contest over the two games. In Saturday’s win over Davidson, the forward from Gainesville, Va., tallied a game-high 22 points (8-for-12 (.667) from the field) to go along with team highs in rebounds (9) and assists (5). He scored 16 of those points in the second half and hit three crucial free throws in the final 30 seconds to help the Patriots claim victory. On Wednesday at Saint Louis, Oduro notched a season-best 26 points and a career-best 15 rebounds to go along with two assists, two blocks and two steals. He made 10-of-17 (.588) attempts from the floor.
Edwards scored a career-high 24 points in GW’s lone game of the week on Saturday versus Saint Louis. The redshirt freshman shot 9-of-16 (.563) from the floor, 3-of-7 (.429) from deep and also corralled five rebounds in 33 minutes of action. A guard from Stratford, Conn., he spearheaded a second-half comeback attempt with 15 of his 24 points after the break.

DaRon Holmes II scored 32 points on 12-of-15 (.800) shooting with six rebounds, two assists and two steals in Dayton’s win at Fordham … UD freshman Mike Sharavjamts dished our five assists in each game last week while also scoring eight … Duquesne’s R.J. Gunn scored 26 points on 8-of-10 (.800) shooting and 5-of-7 (.714) from beyond the arc with two assists and two steals in the Dukes win over Saint Joseph’s … Duquesne freshman Kareem Rozier distributed six assists and sunk three field goals in the DU win over the Hawks … Fordham freshman Will Richardson averaged 16 points and 1.5 assists while shooting .571 (12-for-21) from the field and 6-of-11 (.545) from three in a split week for the Rams … La Salle’s Jhamir Brickus tallied 25 points, swishing six threes (6-of-10/.600) with six rebounds, five assists and two steals in the Explorers’ win at UMass … Matt Cross scored 22 points with seven rebounds in Massachusetts’ win over Rhode Island after a 13-point, nine-rebound, three-assist effort versus La Salle … Rhode Island’s Ishmael Leggett averaged 21.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists including a 23-point and 14-rebound double-double versus St. Bonaventure … Moses Flowers led St. Bonaventure, shooting 13-of-19 (.684) to average 17.5 points with 2.0 steals in a 1-1 week for the Bonnies … Javonte Parkins had a 27-point effort, shooting 11-of-17 (.647) to lead Saint Louis to a win at George Washington … VCU’s David Shriver shined last week, starting by not missing a shot (4-of-4 from the field, 3-for-3 from three) in a win at Loyola Chicago, followed by sinking six threes and grabbing a crucial steam at Dayton to rally the Rams to victory.
