Ryan Heath helped Irondequoit to a pair of wins. Kani Mitchem led Gates-Chili in back-to-back victories. Cam Ryan and Victor stayed unbeaten, while Eastridge’s Cordell Young continues to put up big numbers. The four were named Player of the Week (Jan. 9-15) for their respective divisions as announced by Monroe County coaches.
Ryan averaged 11.3 points over three wins last week to earn Monroe County Division I Player of the Week (POTW). The junior guard netted 13 in an 87-58 victory over UPrep to start the week. He followed with 12 points as the Blue Devils edged divisional for Penfield and capped his week with 11 more points in a win over Webster Schroeder as Victor improved to 10-0 on the season. Ryan connected on 6-of-11 shots from behind the 3-point arc for the week while grabbing an average of 1.7 rebounds. He also handed out 1.7 assists while committing two turnovers for the week.

Mitchem netted an average of 21.7 points in three games last week to nab Division II POTW. The senior guard scored 27 points in a win over Greece Odyssey to start the week. He added 25 as the Spartans won their third straight game with a 69-63 victory over Brockport and closed the week with 13 points against Webster Thomas. He handed out 16 assists for the week and compiled an assist to turnover rate of 2.1 while grabbing 3.7 rebounds per game.

Heath earned his second Division III POTW. The senior guard finished with 12 points, eight rebounds, three steals, seven deflections and a blocked shot in a win over Fairport to open the week. He later scored 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting as the Eagles defeated Pittsford Sutherland to sweep the regular season series. Heath grabbed seven rebounds in the win while collecting five assists, four steals and 12 deflections.

Young scored 35 points in Eastridge’s only game of the week to earn his second Division IV POTW of the season. The senior guard connected 15 times from the floor in the Lancers’ matchup with undefeated Monroe High. He has scored 30 or more points in seven games this season including a season-high 42-point effort. Young is averaging 32.3 points per game.
