ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Drew Angelo and Nolan Smith combined for 39 points including nine during a third-quarter run when the Honeoye Falls-Lima boys’ basketball team pulled away from a one-possession game to win for the second time in three games.
Smith scored six while Angelo added three in an 11-2 run coming out of the locker room.
“That’s kinda our thing,” first-year head coach Corey Allmond said. “We try to get Nolan touches inside, but we try to give Drew the freedom to drive the basketball and make plays.”
Leading 30-28, Angleo opened the third-quarter scoring when he converted one of two free throws. Smith followed with a bucket off an inbound play. Two possessions later, Smith finished again in the lane. Owen Smith grabbed a rebound and connected before Angelo and Nolan Smith scored on back-to-back trips down the floor. Smith’s bucket gave the Cougars a double-digit advantage at 41-30.

“It feels good,” Allmond said of the win. “We’ve had a rough schedule up until now. It’s like college. In college, you have the tough non-conference and then you get ready for conference. Right now, we’re getting ready for the league play and trying to take some steps to win this league.”
Smith, a 6-foot-6 forward who entered play averaging 14.8 points per game, finished with a game-high 20 points. Angelo added 19 in the win.
“We’re trying to get him in open space, so he can make some plays and he does it,” Allmond said of Angelo, a 6-foot junior guard. “He’s probably our best passer. He’s had a game with eight assists. This last game he had seven assists. I’m pretty sure he was touching the ball for six or seven assists tonight.”

Caiden Evans had a team-high 17 points. Evans converted a steal and layup and four possessions scored in transition to pull Olympia within six at 50-44 midway through the fourth quarter.
