NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Saint Louis junior Yuri Collins its Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. George Washington freshman Maximum Edwards was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Dec. 12-18.
Collins tied for team-high honors with 17 points and dished out nine assists in the win against Drake. The guard from St. Louis also posted two steals. He remains the NCAA leader in assists and assists per game and is currently tied with Chris Lowe for eighth on the A-10’s all-time assist list.
In GW’s lone game, Edwards recorded his first career double-double with 16 points, 12 rebounds and five assists. A guard from Stratford, Conn., he shot 7-of-13 (53.8 percent) from the field and grabbed five of his 12 rebounds on the offensive glass. He became the first GW freshman with a double-double since Jan. 2020 and the first Colonial overall to post a line of 15+ points, 10+ rebounds and 5+ assists since 2010.

Dayton’s Toumani Camara had 17 points, nine rebounds four assists, two blocks and two steals in the Flyers’ win over Wyoming … Joe Reece had back-to-back strong games for Duquesne, with 15.5 points and 6.0 rebounds to lead the Dukes to a pair of victories … Victor Bailey, Jr. had 19 points on 5-of-9 (.556) from 3-point range and .583 (7-for-12) from the field in George Mason’s win over Tulane … James Bishop shot 10-of-20 (.500) from the field and sunk five triples en route to a 30-point performance in a GW win over Coppin State … La Salle’s Josh Nickelberry had 15 points and grabbed four rebounds for the Explorers at Cincinnati … Phillip Alaston recorded a 17-point, 11-rebounds double-double for Loyola Chicago in a win over Albany, the Ramblers’ fourth win in the last five games … Loyola freshman Ben Schwieger had 15 points on 6-of-10 (.600) shooting with five boards and two blocks in the Albany win … Brayon Freeman averaged 19.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists for Rhode Island, matching his career high with 21 points versus Georgia State.
