Ten Section V student-athletes earned 2022 Girls’ Soccer First Team All-State recognition as announced by New York State Sportswriters and Coaches Organization for Girls’ Sports (NYSSCOGS).
In all, 48 local players were named to All-State teams.
Seniors Maggie Cregan (Brighton) and Delaney Tellex (Penfield) received Class AA First Team honors while junior Wrianna Hudson (Greece Athena) and senior Amelia Breton (Churchville-Chili) were named to Class A’s top squad along with junior Ella Yartym (Haverling) being named First Team Class B. Ninth-grader Mia Gray (Byron-Bergen) and sophomore Ella Lathrop (Gananda) garnered Class C top spots while twin sisters and juniors Grace Russell and Hope Russell (Fillmore) as well as sophomore Ava Thayer (Keshequa) were named First Team Class D.
Cregan, a First Team Division I All-County performer, finished with a team-high 15 goals while collecting six assists for the Bruins which claimed the third seed in sectionals. Tellex, the Monroe County Division I Player of the Year, notched 15 goals and four assists for a Penfield side that claimed the top seed in Class AA. Both Cregan and Tellex earned 2021 Splinters Junior Starting XI honors.
Webster Schroeder’s Megan Fry was named to the Class AA Second Team while Brigid Mulholland (Fairport) earned Third Team honors. Alyssa Andracki (Hilton) was named Class AA Fourth Team and Abby Herbst (Webster Schroeder) the Fifth Team.
Breton, a First Team All-County performer, finished with 17 goals and five assists for a Churchville squad that advanced to the Class A finals as a No. 4 seed. Along the way, the Saints handed top-seeded Mendon its first loss of the season. Hudson finished tied for 10th in Section V and top among all Monroe County scorers with 32 goals and 71 points. The junior forward who is committed to play at Florida State was named Monroe County Division III Player of the Year. Hudson was a member of the 2021 Splinters Sophomore Starting XI.
Kendall Mesh (Spencerport) and Catherine Rogers (Webster Thomas) were named to the Class A Second Team while Leah Shaffer (Pittsford Mendon) and Keira Dall (Our Lady of Mercy) earned Class A Third Team recognition. Caroline D’Anza (Our Lady of Mercy) and Bridget Merkel (Pittsford Mendon) reaped Fourth Team nods while Maeve Steckley (Irondequoit) and Maria Karipidis (Honeoye Falls-Lima) were named Fifth Team. Cate Burns (Spencerport) secured Sixth Team honors.
Yartym, the Livingston County Division Co-Player of the Year, scored 40 goals and led Section V with 33 assists and 113 points. The forward helped Haverling to a program-first state quarter-final appearance along with a subsequent regional championship and state championship appearance.

Yartym’s teammate Keegan Smith, who shared Livingston County Division I Player of the Year honors, garnered a Class B Second Team selection along with Maya Ikewood (Palmyra-Macedon), Molly Seither (Palmyra-Macedon) and Ekemini Udofa (Greece Odyssey). Ireland Harrison (Hornell) and Reilly Batzold (North Rose-Wolcott) were named to the Class B Third Team while Anna Varland (Batavia) and Hanna Fenton (Aquinas) received Fourth Team selections. Ella Wirth (Mynderse) and Hanna Roxstrom (Greece Olympia) earned Fifth Team nods.
Gray, the Genesee Region Player of the Year, finished second in Section V with 110 points. The midfielder scored 43 goals and collected 24 assists for a Bees’ squad that advanced to the NYS Class C semifinals for a second straight season. Lathrop earned Wayne County Player of the Year. The 5-foot-4 midfielder/forward finished with 25 goals and 19 assists in leading Gananda to its first sectional title in program history.
Gray’s teammate Mackenzie Hagen was named to the Class C Second Team along with Samantha Bates (Holley) and Chloe Hubbard (Warsaw). Grace Braselton (Wheatland-Chili) and Mary Claire Rollins (Geneseo) earned Third Team spots while Kerrigan Driskell (Addison), Abigail Marotta (Marion) and Emerson Paull (Gananda) were named Class C Fourth Team.
Hope Russell, the Allegany County Player of the Year, ranked third in points overall in Section V with 103 (44 goals and 15 assists). Grace Russell, an All-County performer, finished with 20 goals and 27 assists. Thayer posted team-highs of 18 goals and 10 assists for a Keshequa squad which advanced to the NYS Class D semifinals.
Thayer’s teammate, Kelsey Davis, and the Russells’ teammate, Rachel Hatch along with Olivia Kilmer (Avoca/Prattsburgh) were named to the Class D Second Team. Mary Hamer (Genesee Valley/Belfast), Emily McCaig (Jasper-Troupsburg) and Maureen Stuckey (Arkport-Canaseraga) received Class D Third Team nods. Hannah Southwick-Powers (Genesee Valley/Belfast) was named to Class D Fourth Team.
