ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Freshman Paris Anthony’s putback with 0.5 seconds remaining gave the Roberts Wesleyan University women’s basketball team a 59-57 victory over Molloy University in an East Coast Conference game on Sunday afternoon.
Roberts (2-6, 1-1) inbounded the ball with 13 seconds remaining and the score tied at 57. Junior guard Georgia Haverlock drove to the basket and her shot rolled out, but Anthony, who led Roberts with a career-high 14 points grabbed the rebound and converted a layup for the winning basket.
Molloy had two chances to inbound the ball in the final 0.5, but could not get a shot off.
“Paris came up really big for us today,” Clifford said. “She played like a sophomore today. I thought all of our young players played well.”
Junior guard Danielle DiCintio added 11 points for Roberts and Haverlock finished with a team-high eight rebounds. Anthony added seven rebounds.
The game was tied at 25 at halftime and Molloy held a 43-41 advantage after three quarters.
“Any win on the road in the conference is a good win,” Clifford said. “I think that this is going to be a great win for our confidence and a morale booster for our team.”
Roberts returns home to host LeMoyne in a non-conference game at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
