Haverling and Pal-Mac vie for regional spot

A spot in the New York State Girls’ Class B Far West Regional is up for grabs when Palmyra-Macedon and Haverling meet Tuesday night in a rematch of last year’s qualifier. Here’s what you need to know:

Class B1 champion PALMYRA-MACEDON RED RAIDERS (17-1-1/Finger Lakes East Division 1) vs. Class B2 champion HAVERLING RAMS (19-0-0/Livingston Division I).

How they arrived here: Palymyra-Macedon (No. 2 NYSSWA Class B) opened the postseason with a victory over No. 8 Waterloo 3-1. Maya Ikewood’s goal was the difference in a 1-0 win over No. 4 Livonia, and the Red Raiders beat Aquinas, 1-0 in overtime to claim their second straight sectional title. Haverling (No. 5 NYSSWA Class B) started the postseason with an 8-0 win over No. 8 seed Attica. The Rams went on to beat No. 5 LeRoy 4-1 and Hornell, 3-2 to clinch a third straight B2 title.

Total goals scored: Palmyra-Macedon (80), Haverling (99)

Total goals allowed: Palmyra-Macedon (4), Haverling (11)

Last time they met: Reagan Diehl finished with a goal and an assist as Pal-Mac erased a one-goal deficit to beat Haverling 2-1 in the 2021 Class B regional qualifier.

Trends: Palmyra-Macedon has won 13 out of its past 14 games with the other result being a tie. In those past 14 games, the Red Raiders have only allowed one goal. Haverling’s 3-2 win over Hornell in the sectional championship snapped a streak of 12 straight wins by three or more goals.

F eight goals, eight assists; Reagan Diehl Jr. M two goal, 11 assists; Taryn Goodness So. D; Maya Ikewood Jr. M/F 35 goals, 14 assists; Emma Robinson Sr. M/F nine goals, seven assists; Jenna Santelli So. M/F 14 goals, six assists; Molly Seither Sr. M seven goals, 17 assists.

Haverling: Lola Coots So. GK 38 saves, six goals allowed, 785 minutes in goal; Meredith Czajkowsk Sr. M nine goals, ten assists; Lydia Dickson Jr. D/M five goals, two assists; Natalie Krelie Sr. D/F 10 goals, eight assists; Keegan Smith Jr. M/F 27 goals, 15 assists; Triesta Sprague So. D/F four goals, eight assists; Ella Yartym Jr. F 36 goals, 31 assists.

Coaches: Mike Karns (Palmyra-Macedon), Braedyn Northrup (Haverling)

History 101: Palmyra-Macedon is looking to clinch a spot in the regionals for the third time since 2016. The Haverling girls have yet to reach the state quarterfinals.

What’s next: A meeting against the Lewiston-Porter vs. Fredonia winner in the New York State Class B Far West Regional awaits either Pal-Mac or Haverling.

A 6:30 p.m. kickoff is scheduled at Penn Yan High School.
