The Rochester Red Wings lost to the Syracuse Mets on Friday, 8-3, despite a home run and three RBIs from Jake Alu.
The loss, which drops the Red Wings’ record to 58-75, is Rochester’s second straight after winning the series’ first two games, including a 15-8 slugfest on Wednesday.

The Red Wings took the lead in the first on Alu’s seventh home run of the season, a two-run shot with two outs off Syracuse starter Jesus Vargas. Syracuse scored seven unanswered runs beginning in the bottom of the first; however, the Red Wings only scored once more- a sacrifice fly by Alu in the sixth.

Alu’s performance continued an eventful series for the third-baseman. Across the four games, he has gone 8-16 with three home runs and nine RBIs. Those home runs have put him at 16 on the year between AA and AAA, a new record for him. Alu also doubled twice in Thursday’s 2-1 extra-innings loss, which put him up to an organization-leading 34 on the season.
The Wings, who have not had a series win in their last 13 tries, will need to win both games over the weekend to break the streak. Their next game is Saturday at 6:35, with Logan Verrett scheduled to start against Syracuse’s Jose Rodriguez.
