Ella Meabon (Fairport) scored 18 points, and Ne’vaeh Buntley (Fairport) added 12 as the Rochester Girls defeated Suffolk 77-43 in Saturday action from the Basketball Coaches Association of New York (BCANY) Summer Hoops Festival from Johnson City School District.
With the win, Rochester clinched a spot in the tournament semi-finals on Sunday.
Meabon connected seven times from the floor and scored 15 points in the first half as Rochester grabbed a 36-16 heading into halftime. Buntley added six points on three made field goals over the first 16 minutes of action.
Caydence Hadley (bishop Kearney) scored eight points in the win while Aniya Rowe (Bishop Kearney), Kylie Buckley (Livonia), Sydney Postell (Churchville-Chili) and Lauren Kingsley (Pavilion) added six points apiece in the win. Mallory Heise (Hilton) contributed five points. Audrey Hintz (Our Lady of Mercy) and Amaia Jackson (Bishop Kearney) both accounted for four points. Lily Funk (East Rochester) had two points.
Rochester will get a rematch against the Central squad on Sunday. Rochester took the first meeting on Friday, 63-47.
Earlier in day, the Rochester Boys dropped a pair of games including a 74-58 loss to Suffolk. Xavier Gissendanner (Irondequoit) scored 18 points to lead the offense. Merritt Holly (Le Roy) added 13 points while Marquell Freeman (Edison Tech) had seven points. Colin Gentile (Bishop Kearney) and Francis Nwokonko (Brockport) both scored six points. Garrett Clar (Victor) chipped in four points. JC Walker (Lyons) and Max Michalski (Pittsford Sutherland) had two points apiece. The Rochester Boys also lost 76-60 later in the day.
