Diamond Pro Monday Softball Wrap: Cartagena leads Irondequoit to sixth straight win; Cochran paces Cal-Mum offense

PITTSFORD SUTHERLAND (7-1) 6
Tia Lehtonen collected three hits including a two-run home run and Julianna Lyons contributed a solo shot as Sutherland won its third straight game. Maddie Ward struck out eight and picked up the win. Riley Gonzalez drove in a pair of runs in the win.

GATES-CHILI (4-5) 10

Paige Siciliano and Kayla Rogers collected two hits and an RBI apiece for Hilton. Lucy Murphy struck out three and allowed one run on four hits over 2.1 innings of relief to pick up the win. Ashley Simmons singled, walked and drove in three runs. Gates-Chili’s Abby Unson finished 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBI and three runs scored. Emily McManus was 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. Kathryn Conner doubled twice and drove in two runs. Hannah Brown was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Marlayna Cartagena struck out eight and tossed a six-hitter as Irondequoit won its sixth straight game. The junior added two hits including a double. Leilah Rosario contributed a bases-clearing double while Ella Cooley had two hits including a double of her own and two RBI.

Isabella Cochran paced the offense going 3-for-5 with a double, two triples and six RBI as Cal-Mum won by double digits for the fifth time this season. Avery DeMarco finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and four runs scored. Maddy Devore went 2-for-3 with a home run and five runs scored. Montgomery Kessler was 3-for-3 with three RBI. Sawyer Richardson went 3-for-4 with four RBI. Taylor Mills and Adrianna Disalvo added two hits apiece.  Emma Years (three innings/seven strike outs) and Sawyer Richardson (two innings/four strike outs) combined on a no-hitter. Wheatland-Chili’s Justhana Yawn-Gordan walked twice.

Hailey Peters plated a the eventual winning run with a one-out double in the sixth, and Sodus held off Lyons in the seventh inning. Genevieve Vanderbroek led the inning with a walk. Resha Sykes singled to set up Peters. Sarah Hino started and struck out eight batters for the Spartans. The sophomore also finished 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored. Payton Reibstein was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Natalie Lamar homered as part of a three-run first inning. Sykes was 2-for-2 with a sacrifice and two RBI. Abby Gravino and Tayla Bell both scored in the seventh inning when Lyons put four straight batters on base and brought the go-ahead run to the plate. Bell reached base all three times she came to the plate.

Stephanie Youngers doubled, singled and scored two runs to lead the Pavilion attack. Teammates Chelsie Tyler, Sami Mackey and Aynsley Belcher each crossed home once. Sami Mackey struck out out four and walked six.  Aynsley Belcher  fanned one and walked two without allowing an earned run.
