Upstate Baseball League Saturday Wrap: Vinci leads Eastridge; HF-L softball stays unbeaten

BASEBALL

CHURCHVILLE-CHILI (1-0) 8
RUSH-HENRIETTA (0-1) 1
Zachary Miner started, struck out seven and allowed one run over 4.1 innings to register the win. The senior finished 2-for-4 at the plate including an RBI single in the fourth when the Saints sent 10 to the plate and scored five runs. Miner scored twice in the game. Justin Miester hurled 2.2 scoreless innings of relief and added a base hit. Cooper Romich went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Michael Sardou was 2-for-3 with a double and run scored. Braedon Reina collected a hit and two RBI. Kaleb Cieslinski singled, drove in a run and scored another. Joshua Campbell had a base hit, walked and scored twice. Rush-Henrietta’s Evan Brock went 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Joe Grzeskowiak tripled and scored a run.

WEBSTER THOMAS (0-1) 2
VICTOR (1-0) 4
Carter Fink struck out 10 of the 20 batters he faced over 4.2 shutout innings of relief to register his first varsity win. The junior walked two two and allowed three hits. Fink provided an RBI single in the first, and Cooper Loyal’s RBI base hit in the fourth proved to be the game winner. Matt Brady, Andrew Haugh, Connor Cronin, Zach Prior and Peter Eygabroad each had a single for the Blue Devils. Colby Wilson went 3-for-4 with a solo home run to lead Webster Thomas. Garett Wilson had two hits and an RBI. Nate Hill added 2 hits while James Bolton and Mason Lawyer had a hit apiece for the Titans. Nate Zicari struck out six over 3.2 innings and did not give up an earned run.

GREECE OLYMPIA/ODYSSEY (0-1) 2
EASTRIDGE (1-0) 5
Evan Vinci struck out eight over 6.2 innings to register the win, and the Eastridge offense scored four runs in the fifth inning. Vinci allowed two runs on five hits and four walks. Brennen Russo highlighted the decisive inning with a two-run home run. Leading 1-0, Thomas Bareham led the frame with a single. Ryan Greenhagen moved the runner with a sacrifice bunt. Evan Brown brought home the first tally of the stanza with a single. Russo followed with his round-tripper. Vince was hit by a pitch and scored on a Preston Cutaia triple. Bareham went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Russo was 2-for-3 with three RBI. Olympia/Odyssey’s Chris Coriano wnet 2-for-4 with an RBI. Tommy Rebis had an RBI. James Schlueter went 2-for-3 with a run. Dylan Austin doubled and scored.

PITTSFORD MENDON (0-1) 2
Vincent Grazioplene finished 3-for-4 including a two-run single in the third when Batavia sent eight to the plate and scored four runs. Grazioplene brought in Dane Dombrowski and Jesse Reinhart with the eventual winning run. Grazioplene later scored in the inning. Reinhart went 1-for-3 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored.  The senior also struck out seven and allowed one hit over 3.1 innings of relief. Shawn Kimball started and gave up two runs over over 3.2 innings to register the win. Sawyer Siverling and Dombrowski both were 1-for-3 with a run scored. Mekhi Fortes added an RBI base hit for the Blue Devils. Mendon’s Zach was 2-for-3 with two RBI in the game. Eric Krowl walked twice and scored a run. Joey Barbato walked and also crossed home.

Connor Osier helped Greece Athena break down zone defenses during the recent high school basketball season.On Saturday afternoon, the right-hander commanded the strike zone to secure an opening-day win for the Trojans’ baseball team.Osier hurled four no-hit innings in relief to register the save.The sophomore right-hander struck out five, walked two and did not allow a runner past second base. He retired 12 of 16 batters faced, five on ground balls with just two two batters able to get the ball out the infield. READ MORE.

Trailing 5-4 entering the frame, Michael Whelehan singled with two outs and stole second to spark the Cadets. Prince knotted the game with his second single of the game and set the stage for James Capellupo. READ MORE.

Logan Bulman started and struck out five over two shutout innings to pick up the win. The sophomore went 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored including the first tally in the first frame when the Spartans sent 11 to the plate and scored seven runs to put the game out of reach early. Jacob Laird tripled, stole two bases and scored twice in the win. Jed Bodine reached base all three times he came to the plate with two walks and scored twice. Brady McCarthy doubled and scored twice. The senior also struck out five and did not allow a baserunner over two innings of relief work.  Ethan Cramer crossed home twice while Braydn Orbaker, Austin Cincinello and Evan Laird each scored a run.

LIVONIA 1
Sophomore Michael Rowland struck out two and allowed one run on two hits over four innings to register the win. Older brother, Andrew Rowland fanned five over three scoreless innings of relief for the save. Christopher Kashorek finished 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI to pace the Avon offense. Hudson Volpe was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Livonia’s Jack Kearney and Luke Stewart collected two hits apiece. Kearney doubled in the game.

Juniors Haden Abbott  and Jamel Crowder combined for a no-hitter in a game that was called after six innings. Abbott pitched 5.1 Innings with 11 strikeouts. Crowder pitched 2/3 inning with one strikeout and three walks. Senior Pacey Hopkins finished 1-for-4 with three RBI. Abbott went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Senior Sam Patterson was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Crowder went 1-for-4 with two RBI. Junior Sawyer Devoe was 1-for-2

NORTHSTAR CHRISTIAN 1
HAVERLING 11 (five innings)
Zach Musso struck out six over 4.3 innings, and AJ Brotz finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs to pace Haverling. Musso allowed one unearned on two hits and one walk. Gavin Buckley went 2-for-4 with an RBI, stolen base and two runs scored for the Rams which broke open the game with a five-run fourth inning. Haverling added two more in the fifth. Colin Coots collected three walks, a hit and two runs scored. Evan Pendle was 2-for-3 with three RBI, one sacrifice bunt and a run scored. Keefer Calkins drove in a run with a hit.

HAVERLING 10
AVOCA/PRATTSBURGH 6 (eight innings)
Owen Smith struck out over two shutout innings of relief to nail down the win for Haverling. Cayden Mattison paced the Haverling offense going for 2-for-4 with a double, three stolen bases, two RBI and three runs scored. Ethan Brotz walked and  drove in  three runs with a pair of doubles. Keefer Calkins went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Zach Musso collected a single, walk, RBI and run scored. AJ Brotz singled, stole a base and scored twice. Gavin Buckley had a hit, two walks and two runs scored. AJ Brotz started, struck out four and allowed two runs on three hits and two walks over 4.2 innings. Jamel Crowder went 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Avoca/Prattsburgh offense. Tucker Gerych connected on a solo home run. Pacey Hopkins finished with four walks. Sawyer Devoe drove in a run with a hit. Ashton McMahon went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Liliana Jorritsma reached base all three times she came to the plate with a home run, walk, single and two runs scored. Annabella Putnam singled twice and scored twice. Riley Stowe, walked, was hit by a pitch and scored twice.
