NO. 1 BISHOP KEARNEY (19-3) 58
Both teams made runs in a high-scoring first quarter as Amaia Jackson hit two three-pointers in the early going as Kearney opened an 11-4 lead before the Red Raiders ended the quarter on a 19-4 run. Bella Pucci scored eight points in the run while Ne’Vaeh Buntley and Emma Meabon scored six each as Fairport built a 25-18 lead after the first eight minutes. READ MORE.

NO. 1 PITTSFORD MENDON (23-1) 58
The Vikings made two 3-pointers in the first half. They made three 3-pointers in fewer than two minutes in the third quarter, stretching their lead to 17. Seniors Lily Kennedy, Danielle Strauff and Anaya Coleman each made multiple 3s during the third as their team outscored Schroeder by 12. READ MORE.

NO. 1 EAST ROCHESTER (22-1) 61
East Rochester’s girls basketball team won the 2021 Class C1 girls basketball title on their home floor, something that may never be done again. And yet, there was still something missing. The opportunity to make a state run. They took the first step, beating Alexander 61-37 behind their only senior, Sam Lewis, who scored 34 points, 17 in each half, to lead the Bombers to their second straight title. READ MORE.

NO. 6 GANANDA (14-8) 42
NO. 1 PAVILION (19-2) 46
Tournament MVP Lauren Kingsley scored 16 points including six in the fourth quarter when Pavilion held off a late rally and won its second sectional title in three years. Kingsley connected three times from the floor over the final eight minutes. Shea Amberger added 17 points in the win while Karlee Zinkievich accounted for 11. Ella Tillotson chipped in with two points for the Golden Gophers who will face York in the Class C sub-regional on Monday. Gananda’s Kayle Marvin scored 11 of her team-high 15 points in the second half as the Blue Panthers tried to come back from nine down at the break. Teammate Nadia Martyniuk had 14 points. Eva Jenny scored six points. Nicole Cruz (3), Nyah Cruz (2) and Katie Rothwell (2) also scored for Gananda. The Blue Panthers had won nine straight games entering play on Saturday.

CLASS C3

NO. 2 YORK (20-3) 42
NO. 1 DUNDEE/BRADFORD (21-2) 35
Tournament MVP Katelyn Curry finished with 15 points and 12 assists to lead York to its second straight sectional title. Teammate Cierra Smith connected on three 3-pointers for 12 points while Sydnee Emerson added eight points and six rebounds in the win. Kaitlyn Holland scored seven points. Adison Plank grabbed nine rebounds. The Knights will face Pavilion in a Class C sub-regional.

NO. 8 RUSH-HENRIETTA (11-13) 43
NO. 2 AQUINAS (19-3) 77
Jeff LaFave didn’t want his second-seeded Aquinas boys’ basketball team to be the next in line.

Preparing to face No. 8 Rush-Henrietta in the Section V Class AA final, the first-year coach delivered a clear message to his squad:

“They’re either going to be Cinderella and make our lives miserable, or we’re going to be midnight.”

A third quarter that opened with five lead changes closed with the Pittsford Mendon boys’ basketball team on a 13-0 run. When it was done, the Vikings had a lead they did not surrender and were on the way to a second straight Section V Class A1 title. READ MORE.

NO. 5 PITTSFORD SUTHERLAND (13-10) 54
NO. 2 EAST HIGH (14-3) 59
Shamir Caruthers toed the free throw line with 2.5 seconds remaining in Saturday’s Section V Class A2 championship. A 57-54 lead seemed enough at that point.

Then again, some might have considered the game decided when Caruthers’s teammate Damani Barley rose up for a dunk to open the third quarter, and East High had momentum on its side. READ MORE.

NO. 4 PALMYRA-MACEDON (16-8) 37
NO. 2 NEWARK (17-6) 40
Isaiah Camp and Gabriel Caraballo combined on an alley-oop with 1 minute and 39 seconds remaining for the go-ahead points. Caraballo fed Camp who finished the play with an and-one to give Newark a 38-37 edge. Newark denied Pal-Mac on the Red Raiders’ final three possessions of the game punctuated by Camp’s block of a game-tying 3-point attempt with 1.1 seconds remaining. READ MORE.

CLASS B2

NO. 4 WELLSVILLE (14-8) 66
NO. 3 MYNDERSE (15-8) 58
Logan Dunbar connected on three 3-pointers and led four in double figures as Wellsville won its second sectional title in four years. Dunbar had 14 points in the third quarter when Wellsville outscored Mynderse 20-9 to pull away from a tied game. Eli Schmidt scored 14 points in the win. Cody Costello had 12 and Alex Perkins 11 points. Wellsville will play Newark in the qualifier of the NYS Class B Far West Regional. Troy Kabat led Mynderse with 21 points. Jayden Key accounted for 12 while Mike Bogart scored eight and Will Korzenieski and Ethan Hillimire had six apiece. Jaydan Ryrko scored seven for the Blue Devils.

CLASS D1

NO. 2 WHEATLAND-CHILI (19-4) 67
NO. 1 AVOCA/PRATTSBURGH (23-0) 68
Pacey Hopkins and Sawyer Devoe scored 20 points apiece while sophomore Macoy Putnam posted a double-double as Avoca/Prattsburgh won its second straight sectional title. Devoe scored five points in the fourth quarter. Hopkins had four over the final eights minutes to go with five assists and and four rebounds for the contest. Putnam collected 11 rebounds, 11 assists, five steals and four points. Haden Abbott and Jamel Crowder contributed 12 points apiece in the win. A/P advances to play Notre Dame-Batavia in the qualifier of the New York State Class D Far West Regional. Wheatland-Chili’s Aaron Lund led all scorers with 26 points. Jahmere Copper added 17 points for the Wildcats. Terry Bayly-Henshaw had 12 points while Brendan Moore (6), Jaden Schwenebraten (2), John Lynch (2) and Leighton Williams (2) also scored for W-C.

CLASS D2

NO. 1 NOTRE DAME-BATAVIA (20-3) 59
