ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Mike Morgan connected on a jumper from just outside the lane as time expired to lift the No. 3 Edison Tech Inventors to a 51-49 victory over the No. 6 McQuaid Jesuit Knights in Section V Class AA quarter-final action, Friday night.
Edison advances to play the winner of No. 2 Aquinas and No. 7 Fairport in The semifinal round to be played on Tuesday.
Morgan used a high-ball screen set by teammate Jabari Johnson to get to the left side of the lane where he stopped and scored over a pair of defenders.

“When I was at the wing, I saw there were seven seconds left,” the senior guard explained. “I backed up. I was going to take the three, but we only needed one. I could get fouled or whatever. Once he set the screen, I got around it and I just got up. I’ve been practicing that shot. It was a game shot to take.”
Morgan scored on a pair of previous drives in the quarter. His bucket three minutes and 30 seconds gave Edison a 43-42. The Inventors did not trail again. Morgan made it a 47-44 game with just under two minutes remaining.
He credited teammate Davijon Lipscomb, who finished with 10 points, for creating space on the floor.
“They were anticipating the pass because Davi was hot,” Morgan said. “Once he got hot, we spread the floor and we’re a quick team. I just accelerated and got into the paint.”
Trailing by six at half, Edison opened the third quarter on a 14-2 run. Morgan converted a pair of free throws to give the Inventors a 26-25 edge, their first lead since 2-0.
Edison still had the upper hand midway through the fourth quarter before the teams exchanged leads on four straight possessions.
Chris Woodard hit a pair of free throws to tie the game at 49 with 11.4 seconds remaining.
Morgan took the ensuing inbound and went the length of the floor for the game winner.
Edison’s Brandon Latson led all scorers with 18 points including 16 in the second half. Johnson and Tyler Bethea scored six apiece. Jabric Larkins (2) and Edmari Binion (1) rounded out the scoring for the Inventors.
Casey Montesano connected on four 3-pointers and led McQuaid with 13 points. Woodard had 12 points. Colin Bavibidila and Anthony DiMarco scored six apiece. Will Taylor (5), Max Schalm (4) and Ian Florence (3) also scored for McQuaid.
