ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Cooper Hassall (Brockport) registered a double-double in his only game of the week. Shawn Mason and Webster Thomas continued in an upward trajectory. Tanner Mountain (Batavia) averaged double-digit scoring numbers over four games played, and Tobey Wright (Rush-Henrietta) totaled 37 points in a pair of wins. Monroe County League coaches named the quartet Players of the Week (Feb. 7th-13th) for their respective divisions.
Wright scored 17 points in a win over Franklin and added 20 against Fairport to earn Monroe County Division I Player of the Week (POTW). Wright connected on 6-of-11 from the floor including 3-of-5 from behind the 3-point arc in a 79-59 win over the Quakers. The senior guard grabbed five rebounds and handed out five assists while converting both of his free throw attempts. Later in the week, he hit 5-of-11 from the floor and 8-of-9 from the free throw line in a 63-61 win over the Red Raiders. Wright collected six rebounds and four assists in the victory over the Royals Comets’ divisional rival.
Mason shot 50 percent from behind the 3-point arc over three games to earn his second Division II POTW of the season. The junior guard started the week connecting on 8-of-13 shots from the floor including 6-of-9 from distance in an 81-72 win over Hilton, a game in which he scored 25 points. Mason closed the seven-day stretch finding the measure on 5-of-9 from long range in a win over Bishop Kearney. Mason scored 62 in the three outings while handing out seven assists and grabbing eight rebounds. The win over Kearney was 11th straight for the Titans.
Hassall posted his sixth double-double of the season in the Brockport’s win over Greece Odyssey to earn DIII POTW. The 6-foot-4 senior forward scored 18 points on 9-of-13 shooting while grabbing 15 boards in the contest. For the season, Hassall is shooting 60.2 percent from the floor while grabbing 10 rebounds per game.
Mountain averaged nearly 14 points per game on 56 percent shooting from long range over four contests to nab Monroe County Division IV Player of the Week. The senior forward connected on 4-of-5 triples in a 53-49 win over Vertus to start the week. He later found the measure on 4-of-5 attempts from long range in Batavia’s 65-47 triumph over Greece Odyssey. Along the way he scored 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the floor against Canandaigua and added 14 points against Greece Olympia. Mountain collected 20 rebounds for the week along with 11 assists.
