The Roberts men’s basketball team used a 9-0 run with two minutes remaining in the game to fend off the University of the District of Columbia Saturday night, coming away with a 95-87 win.
Redshirt sophomore Ja’Kair Sanchez connected on a midrange jumper with 2:02 left in the game to start the offensive run for Roberts. Sanchez was joined by senior Rian Carter who hit back-to-back buckets including a driving layup and a 3-pointer.
Carter was the game’s leading scorer with 25 points, a career-high for him at Roberts. The Rochester, N.Y. native also grabbed four rebounds to go along with four steals and four assists.
UDC was efficient on offense shooting 35-of-73 (47.9%) from the field and 10-of-19 (52.6%) from 3-point range. The Firebirds were led by Kenyon Stone with 22 points.
Sanchez finished with 18 points, Shane Fanning scored 16 points and Amari Lee had 10 in the win.
Roberts (9-9, 7-6 ECC) will need a strong finish coming down the final stretch of the season. The Redhawks will host Queens on Wednesday in the VAC at 7 p.m.
