ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Chris Reed hopes Tuesday’s performance offered a glimpse of what’s to come.
Mired in an eight-game losing streak, Reed’s Rush-Henrietta boys’ basketball team broke out with a 79-59 win over host Franklin in non-league action.
“Lately, we had so many guys out in protocol that they missed so much time,” the 22nd-year coach said. “When they came back, they didn’t find their rhythm. They weren’t shooting well, and we’re good shooters. I hope this gets us going.”
Mason Giorgione led three in double figures. The senior guard scored 13 of his team-high 23 points in the second quarter when the Royal-Comets pulled away from a seven-point game. Giorgione connected on two of his four 3-pointers on the night, and R-H led 48-25 going into halftime.

“We’re a team that relies on shooting,” Reed noted. “We need to shoot well because we’re not big. When we get going, we can shoot it.”
Tobey Wright paced Rush early with eight of his 17 points in the first quarter. Wright hit a pair of triples in the game. Abdul Bori also hit twice from distance and added 13 points in the win.

“It’s a good time to get everyone together and get hot,” Reed added. “That’s our hope. When you’re going through it, it’s not easy. You wonder if it’s ever going to come together.”

R-H opened the season with three wins and held a 5-2 record in the first week of January before stumbling. The Royal Comets improved to 6 wins and 10 losses with Tuesday’s victory. Four games remain in the regular season.
“I like our guys,” Reed said. “I think we can be a dangerous low seed as long as we rebound and shoot it. I think we’re going to be a tough out.”
Franklin’s Sha’mere Freeman led all scorers with 27 points. The junior hit three 3-pointers and scored 11 points in the first quarter. He converted a pair of free throws to tie the game at 13. Freeman finished with five triples in the game.

TaiJohn Lewis added 11 points for Franklin (3-14) while Terence Thompson had eight. Shedreeck Knight (4), Chauncey White-Oliver (3), Shawn Goins (3) and Sincere Rivera (2) also scored for Franklin.
