ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Storms cut short the local high school basketball schedule last week. The weather, though, didn’t stop several players from turning in top performances. Bryce Ceravolo (Canandaigua), Jason Gibbs (Churchville-Chili), Josh Knapp (Fairport) and Emmanuel Torres (Eastridge) were named Player of the Week (January 31st-February 6th) for their respective divisions as announced by Monroe County coaches.

Knapp helped Fairport to its third straight win with a 16-point, six-rebound performance in the Red Raiders’ 61-50 win over Brighton to earn Monroe County Division I Player of the Week (POTW). The senior forward also took two charges in the contest. The game marked Knapp’s first double-digit effort of the season.

Gibbs also had eight rebounds and three steals in the contest. The 23-point effort from Gibbs was the ninth such outing of 20 or more points for the Churchville-Chili Saint this season.

Ceravolo averaged 19 points on 65 percent shooting in a pair of Canandaigua wins last week to garner DIII honors. The senior guard scored 14 in a 55-29 win over Bishop Kearney. He connected on 5-of-10 shots in the win. Ceravolo opened the week with 10-of-13 effort including 3-of-4 from behind the arc for 24 points in a 64-43 win over HF-L. Ceravolo also collected eight rebounds, three assists and five steals for the week.

Torres scored 20 points in Eastridge’s 78-76 win over Greece Athena and was named Division IV Player of the Week. The junior shot 6-of-12 from the floor including 3-of-5 from behind the 3-point arc. He grabbed four rebounds while handing out three assists and collecting two steals. The win was the sixth straight for Eastridge (15-1).
