Sophomore Emma Waite scored 22 points to lead RIT (9-7, 6-5 Liberty League) to a 74-64 win at William Smith (4-12, 3-7 Liberty League) Saturday. Junior Kaleesha Joseph tallied 17 points, senior Alyssa Juergens added 16 points, while senior Sarah Henretta finished with 10 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Waite scored with seven seconds remaining to give RIT an 18-17 lead after the first quarter.
- Waite led the Tigers with nine points in the quarter on 4-of-6 shooting.
- RIT outscored the Herons 8-2 over the final 1:28 of the opening quarter to take the lead.
- RIT outscored the Herons 23-12 in the second quarter to lead 41-29 at halftime.
- Waite led the Tigers with 18 points, while Henretta grabbed four rebounds to go along with five points.
- Junior Megan Roy scored early in the second quarter to give RIT a 25-16 lead.
- Waite gave the Tigers their largest lead of the half (14-pts.) on her bucket with 4:08 remaining, extending the RIT lead to 33-19.
- William Smith’s Brooke Jarvis scored on a driving layup at the 5:18 mark of the third quarter to cut the RIT lead to 45-42, while Lauren DeVaney converted 1-of-2 free throws to cap off a14-4 Herons run to make it 45-43 RIT.
- The Tigers closed the quarter with a 15-7 run, taking a 60-49 lead on a Henretta three-pointer with four seconds to play.
- Parisi scored for the Herons with 3:56 to play in the fourth quarter that cut the RIT lead to 64-61.
- Juergens converted a pair of free throws with 1:58 to play to give the Tigers a 66-61 lead, and Joseph scored with 1:05 remaining to give RIT a seven-point lead.
- Waite made it six straight points with a pair of free throws with 43-seconds to play to extend the Tigers lead to 70-61.
- Henretta and Pearson each made their free throws in the closing seconds to secure the win for RIT.
GAME NOTES
- RIT shot 28-of-67 from the floor, including 7-of-18 from beyond the arc. The Tigers scored 12 points off of turnovers, 28 points in the paint and 16 seconds-chance points.
- Henretta led RIT with nine rebounds and had four steals.
- Waite scored 18 of her 22 points in the first half, while Joseph finished with four assists.
- Jarvis scored 26 points to lead William Smith.
