Jahidi Wallace led the SUNY Brockport men’s basketball team to a convincing win over Potsdam on Saturday, 94-73. Wallace scored a game-high 27 points on an efficient 8-for-12 shooting from the field and converted on 10 of his 13 attempts at the foul line.
Mekhi Beckett was one rebound shy of a double-double, coming away with 18 points and nine boards. Antonio Alvarez continues to shoot the ball well from deep, going 5-for-10 from beyond the arc on his way to 16 points in the game. David Grady III also hit double figures, pouring in 12 points.
The game started off as a back and forth affair, but Brockport got hot from long range to take the lead. Joseph Pena and Antonio Alvarez sparked a big run for the squad with their 3-point shooting, as Brockport took a double-digit lead with 15 minutes still on the clock. Potsdam saw the deficit grow to 17 points, trailing 51-34 heading into the break.
Jahidi Wallace was nearly unstoppable all game, as he continued to score well as the second half began. Wallace was crucial in extending the lead to a 23-point advantage for the Golden Eagles just two minutes into the half. The Bears were unable to make a significant dent in their deficit, as they were still down 23 points with four minutes left on the clock. Brockport cruised to the 94-73 win, improving to 12-6 overall and 7-5 in the conference.
Potsdam drops to 9-7 overall and 7-4 in the conference after the loss on the road. Parker Kelly led the team in scoring with 15 points. Tyrese Baptiste posted 11 points and eight boards before fouling out late in the contest.
The Golden Eagles finish the weekend with back-to-back wins at home and have another home game for their next contest. They host Fredonia on Friday, February 4th for a 7:30 pm tip-off.
