ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Less than two minutes had elapsed in the third quarter of Tuesday’s non-league matchup. The Northstar Christian boy’s basketball team was clinging to a three-point lead. Three minutes later, the advantage had grown to double digits, and the Knights were on the way to a 16-point victory, their 10th straight win.
Scoring outbursts like that are going to happen with Northstar – a team that covers the floor with scorers.
Ryan Garwood led three in double figures with 28 points as Northstar defeated visiting York, 81-65.

“We’re like a track team,” Garwood said. “We push the pace. That’s how we get things rolling.”
And they can find the measure from long range.

Garwood connected three times from distance during the decisive third quarter. The senior guard sparked an 8-2 run with his first triple of the frame. His last triple of the stanza made it a 57-44. Northstar did not allow York within single digits for the remainder of the contest.

“We knew coming in they are a tough team,” Garwood said. “It took us a quarter to adjust. We got down by eight early in the second. We were adjusting to what they were showing us.”
Northstar responded with a 15-4 run to close the half.
Gavin Jones converted a steal and layup. Andrew Eschner connected on a three from the top of the key. Garwood completed a four-point play when he was fouled hitting a three on the break. Eschner followed his own miss for a putback, and Garwood capped the quarter with another triple.

“We got a little bit of everything,” Garwood said Northstar’s offensive attack.”We’re doing a lot of screen-and-roll action with Andrew and myself. Andrew is a big body. He can roll for the three. Larry (O’Neal) is big rebounder inside.”
Eschner hit five threes and finished with 25 points. Ben Gristak added 14 points on two 3-pointers. Jones had five points to go with four assists. O’Neal finished with seven points and seven rebounds. Justin Robinson accounted for two points.
Garwood also had seven assists and six rebounds.
