Graduate student Stephen Gabel continued his hot streak with his ninth consecutive double figures scoring effort with a career-high 35 points to lead the Nazareth College Men’s Basketball team to a its 12th consecutive victory with a 108-71 win at Keuka.
Nazareth (14-1 overall, 6-0 Empire 8) scored the first 14 points of the game to take command early as Gabel connected on three 3-pointers in the opening run. His previous career best was a 31-point effort at Cazenovia on January 7, 2020.
The 108 points was the highest team total since the Golden Flyers hit a school record 124 points in a win over Elmira on January 29, 2019.
The 14-1 record and 12th consecutive victory give Nazareth its best season start in all-time history.
Gabel also grabbed 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season and senior Jonathan Park scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his sixth double-double effort of the season.
Graduate student Kevin Underwood added 12 points off the bench for Nazareth while fellow graduate student Brendan Broderick and sophomore Hunter Johnson each added nine points as Broderick connected on all three of his long range jumpers.
Nazareth kept the early lead and added a late first half 14-5 run to extend the lead to 18 points at 56-38 after the first 20 minutes of action.
The Golden Flyers used a 12-2 run midway through the first half as Gabel and Underwood each scored four points in the run and Nazareth took a 26-point lead at 79-53.
Nazareth finished with a sizzling 57.7 percent shooting effort from the field (45-for-78) and connected on 9-of-16 3-point shots. The Golden Flyers also held a 54-39 rebounding edge.
Nazareth continues Empire 8 play next Friday (1/29) at home against Alfred.
