The SUNY Geneseo men’s basketball put a great defensive performance and remained unbeaten in SUNYAC play on Friday night as they took out Brockport 66-50.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights got off to a hot start from behind the arc, draining three shots from deep in the first four minutes to take a 9-6 lead. In the final 16 minutes of the opening half, Geneseo only allowed 10 more points and took a 32-16 lead into halftime.
- Geneseo maintained a healthy lead throughout the second half, never allowing the lead to reach single-digits.
- With six minutes left to play, the Golden Eagles had cut the lead to 11 points and had some momentum, but a big three from junior guard Cole Kattan extended the lead to 14 points.
- Brockport continued to try and fight their way back into the game, but a three-point shot from graduate guard Terrance Nichols with three minutes left iced the game for the Knights and allowed them to cruise to the 66-50 win.
QUICK FACTS
- Geneseo led a balanced attack on offense, with Kattan and senior forward Michael Gannon each tallying 16 points, and Nichols chipping in 14 of his own.
- The 16-point half from Brockport marked their lowest point total in a half this season.
- With the win the Knights improved to 6-0 in conference action, and have now won seven of their last eight outings.
WHAT’S NEXT
Geneseo will battle Oswego for the top spot in the standings on Tuesday, Dec. 18 in Oswego. The Lakers are also unbeaten in the SUNYAC, posting a 7-0 record.
