The SUNY Geneseo women’s basketball team got back in the win column and ended a three-game skid with a 52-49 win over Brockport on Friday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams struggled to find the bottom of the net early in the game, but junior guard Hannah Stockman broke the drought with a three-point shot just over three minutes into the action. Geneseo went on to finish the first quarter hot from behind the arc, converting four of five shots from behind the arc and earning a 19-12 lead.
- Brockport found its rhythm in the second quarter and evened the score at 31-31 before halftime.
- The Knights found themselves trailing by three points early in the third quarter, but then went on a 9-0 scoring run to take a six-point advantage. The Golden Eagles battled back though and ended up only down two points heading into the final 10 minutes.
- With thirty seconds left to play, senior forward Megan Roell made a free-throw to give Geneseo a three-point lead. The Knights defense then played solid defense on the final possession and forced an off-balance shot at the buzzer that did not fall for Brockport.
QUICK FACTS
- Sophomore guard Kiley Snow scored a career-high 16 points to lead Geneseo to its first win since Dec. 4.
- Sophomore guard Kelly McLaughlin chipped in 11 points, while junior forward Lauren Romito tallied a team-high 10 rebounds.
- The Knights defense has been stellar all season long, holding opponents to a SUNYAC-best 52.7 points per game, and they have never let a team score over 67 points against them.
