Freshman Andrew Fox led a quartet of Tigers to score in double-figures to lead RIT (4-6, 2-2 Liberty League) to a 78-70 win over Vassar (10-4, 6-2 Liberty League) in Liberty League action from Clark Gym Saturday. Fox scored a career-high 20 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to pace the Tigers to the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior Michael Young drained a three-pointer to give RIT a 15-10 lead at the 10:51 mark of the first half.
- Vassar responded with a 23-12 run, taking a 33-27 lead on a Zach Johnson layup with 2:03 to play in the opening half.
- The Tigers closed the half with a 5-1 spurt, cutting the Vassar lead to 34-32 on a Fox bucket as time expired.
- Fox scored 14 first-half points to pace the Tigers who shot 12-of-28 from the floor.
- Junior guard Keegan Ocorr gave the Tigers a 41-38 lead on his bucket at the 15:22 mark of the second half.
- Freshman Kris Laing converted a pair of free throws at the 14:01 mark to give the Tigers a 46-41 lead.
- He extended RIT’s lead to 51-42 on a jumper with 12:41 remaining.
- Young scored off an assist from Brock Bowen to give RIT its largest lead of the game at 63-50.
- Johnson capped off a Vassar 15-6 run with his basket with :56 seconds to play that cut the RIT lead to 69-65.
- Fox converted to free throws to push the RIT lead to 73-65, while Bowen converted two free throws in the closing seconds to make it a 78- 70 final.
GAME NOTES
- RIT shot 24-of-48 from the floor, including 6-of-13 from beyond the arc.
- Fox shot 8-of-14 from the floor and went 4-for-4 from the foul line.
- Young scored 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting.
- Laing came off the bench to score 12 points, while Bowne chipped in 11 points.
- Johnson scored 21 points and grabbed 19 rebounds for Vassar.
