Melvin Council, Jr. (UPrep) and Keith Warren, Jr. (McQuaid Jesuit) scored 30 points apiece to lead the Monroe College Mustangs past Cape Fear Community College, 85-77 in the consolation game of the Brunswick CC 11th Annual Holiday Classic.
Council converted 14 of 16 free throws and connected eight times from floor to go with 18 rebounds, seven assists three steals and block. The 6-foot-4 guard leads Monroe in points (24.3), rebounds (7.5) and assists (2.5) per game.
Warren finished 10-of-22 from the floor including 5-of-11 from behind the arc.
Both point totals were Junior College career-highs for the two former Section V standouts.
Council was named Private-Parochial Division I Player of the Year for 2019-20 when he scored 30 or more points in five separate games and averaged 25.2 points per game that season.
Warren averaged 12.0 points, 3.0 assists and 1.2 steals per game during his junior season at McQuaid. The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 24.5 points during his senior season.
Monroe rallied from 10 down in the final five minutes to improve to 13-4 on the season. The Mustangs next play on January 8th against Hostos Community College.
