Leading 12-9, fellow senior Leila Rosario started the run with her first of two triples in the quarter. Nunn hit one of two free throws before getting to the basket for a traditional 3-point play. The duo combined to hit from long range the next two trips down the floor. Nunn’s steal and layup pushed the lead to 20. In all, Irondequoit ended the second quarter on a 22-0 run.

“We’re a young team,” Smith said of his roster of 14 that contains three 9th and a sophomore. “We’ve got a little experience with a lot of youth. I thought we started slow, first-game jitters so-to-speak. It was a little helter skelter, early. I thought the girls settled down in the second quarter and really separated.”
