Friday Wrap: Murphy paces Midlakes girls; Edison falls in opener of Nottingham Tournament

GIRLS 

Red Jacket Tournament

ALEXANDER (0-1) 34
Eight players scored seven points or more to pace Midlakes in the opener. Grace Murphy led the way with 14 points and six rebounds. The junior connected once from long range and scored 10 in the first quarter when the Screaming Eagles opened a 33-5 lead. Camryn Ford added 13 points and six assists while Callie Walker had 13 points and eight rebounds. Cate Peacock finished with nine points and six assists. Mary Givens had 10 points.  Kate Mahoney and Stella DelPapa had eight points apiece. Alyssa Kramer and Natalie Whitmore scored 12 points apiece to lead Alexander. Midlakes faces Mynderse on Saturday for a 4 p.m. start.

BOYS 

Nottingham High Tournament

EDISON TECH (0-1) 65
GREEN TECH (II) 79
Edmari Binion scored eight of his team-high 15 points in the first quarter when Edison jumped to a nine-point advantage, but the Inventors could not hold the lead. Binion finished four field goals over the first eight minutes, and Edison led 28-19 . Davijon Lipscomb connected four times from long range and scored 14 for the Inventors. Tyler Bethea and Marcqell Freeman added 12 points. Mike Morgan scored nine, and Chris Taggart had two points. Dayshaun Walton converted eight of eight free throws and had 23 points for Green Tech.
