WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. — A second-half rally wasn’t enough, and the Keshequa boys’ soccer team saw its season come to an end Friday in the New York State Class C Far West Regional.
Maple Grove (VI) outlasted the Indians in PKs (5-4).
Trailing 3-nil with less than 26 minutes remaining in regulation, the Indians came from behind to send the match to overtime.
“The kids never quit,” Keshequa head coach Ron Macomber, Jr. said. “I can’ be prouder of them. Just came up a little short. It’s a tough way to lose.”
Sterling Strain knocked home a Reese Powers corner kick to get Keshequa on the scoreboard with 25:29 on the clock. Avery Strobel ran on to a lead from Powers and cut the deficit to one :27 seconds later.

“We played pretty poorly in the first half. Unfortunately, it was just a little too late.”
Eli Moore scored twice in counterattack situations to lead Maple Grove. The Red Dragons’ leading scorer connected midway through the first half and then 10 minutes into the second half.
Alex MacCullum converted a penalty kick for a 3-nil Maple Grove lead with 29:31 to go in the game.
Keegan Rishel assisted on Moore’s second goal.
