Brighton and Spencerport to clash for Girls’ Class A1 crown

Division rivals Brighton and Spencerport will meet for the third time this season with the 2021 Section V Girls’ Soccer Class A1 championship on the line. Here’s the breakdown:

No. 1 seed SPENCERPORT RANGERS (16-0-1/Monroe County Division II) vs.No. 2 seed BRIGHTON BRUINS (13-5/Monroe County Division II) 

How they got here: Spencerport (No. 4 NYSSWA Class A) opened with an 8-0 win over No. 8 seed Irondequoit in the quarterfinals and defeated No. 4 Our Lady of Mercy in the semifinals. Brighton (No. 21 NYSSWA Class A) started with a 4-1 win over No. 7 seed Gates-Chili in the quarterfinals before beating Churchville-Chili in the semis.

Total goals scored: Spencerport (73), Brighton (50)

Total goals allowed: Spencerport (4), Brighton (36)

Last time they met: Spencerport took both regular-season matchups by counts of 2-0 and 5-1.

Trends: Spencerport has pitched 13 shutouts this season. Brighton regained its mid-season form after dropping three straight to end the regular season.

Coaches: Jamie Schneider (Spencerport), Rita Kladstrup (Brighton)

History 101: Spencerport is looking to win its sixth straight sectional title. The Rangers are unbeaten in their past 32 contests. Spencerport has not lost to a Section V opponent since October 16th, 2019. Brighton is looking to win its fourth sectional title and first since the Bruins beat Wayne for the 2015 Class A crown.

A 12:30 p.m. kickoff is scheduled Saturday at Webster Schroeder High School.
