Section V Semifinals Preview: Boys’ Soccer Class D1

Section V Boys’ Soccer Class D1 heads to Wayland-Cohocton and Perry for its Final Four. Three of the top four seeds remain. Here’s the breakdown:

No. 1 seed NAPLES BIG GREEN (15-1-1/Finger Lakes West) vs. No. 5 seed ARKPORT/CANASERAGA (11-5-1/Steuben County Division II)

How they got here: Naples opened with a 3-0 win over No. 8 seed Marion. Arkport/Canaseraga defeated No. 4 seed Avoca/Prattsburg, 3-2.

Total goals scored: Naples (66), Arkport/Canaseraga (36)

Total goals allowed: Naples (6), Arkport/Canaseraga (15)

Trends: Naples has won 13 of 14 games with 11 shutouts in that span. The Big Green’s only loss of the season was to Class B1 school Palmyra-Macedon. Arkport/Canaseraga has won three of its last four games, outscoring its opponents, 9-5, in that span.

Players to Watch for Naples: Austin Chapman Sr. MF 10 goals, 1 assists; Owen Hulbert Sr. A 16 goals, 11 assists; Ryan Lester Sr. MF 22 goals, six assists; Cade Rathbun Jr. MF five goals, six assists.

Arkport/Canaseraga: Joe Bauch Sr. MF six goals, four assists; Riley Shinebarger Sr. D 8six goals, five assists; Nate Morey Jr. MF five goals, four assists; Ethan Reynolds Jr. MF five goals, seven assists.

Coaches: Ryan Betrus (Naples), Dale Steiner (Arkport/Canaseraga)

A 6:00 p.m. kickoff is scheduled Tuesday at Wayland-Cohocton Central Schools.

No. 2 seed FILLMORE EAGLES (15-2-0/Allegany County Division I) vs. No. 3 seed WHEATLAND-CHILI WILDCATS (14-3-0/Genesee Division I)

How they got here: Fillmore opened with a 3-0 win over No. 7 seed Mount Morris. Wheatland-Chili with a 3-0 victory over No. 6 seed Genesee Valley/Belfast.

Total goals scored: Fillmore (80), Wheatland-Chili (44)

Total goals allowed: Fillmore (15), Wheatland-Chili (17)

Trends: Fillmore has won 13 consecutive matches with five shutouts in that span. Wheatland-Chili has won eight of its last nine games with four shutouts during that recent stretch.
